Because of this, the artistic process is truly collaborative rather than controlling. Rick facilitates a space for actors and musicians to make choices. The final product is a story-telling that is authentic, never one that is coerced or prefabricated. This rightfully distinguishes Rick as director of authenticity amid a world of pretend.

Rick is the ultimate script detective, no detail goes unnoticed. He will hold actors accountable for research and character development, because he tends to have already done the work so he can talk to to you in specific details. Rick is formidable as a theatre artist because he is so fluent in every aspect of the production. He is equally at home discussing acting, singing, dance or any of the technical elements. And most importantly, every decision Rick makes is about the script and telling the story.

Rick is the reason that our region IS so vibrant with SO many theatre opportunities! He is, hands down, our biggest source of professional applied learning in Wichita. Rick is one of the most brilliant artists I know. His vision is thorough from start to finish. He has such passion for the spine of a story and the consistency with how it is told, and WHY it is so important to tell these stories.

Working with Rick has always been a fantastic experience. As a director, he is able to push you creatively and challenge you to think about the show in a way that may not have occurred to you, but helps you to understand the scene and understand the show on a different level, while still respecting you as a collaborator in the project. Working with him has helped me develop as a creative like with no other director.
